Foreword

The Agricultural Marketing in a Multinational Environment class is designed to expose students to the opportunities, complexities, and hazards involved when a firm decides to enter the global marketplace.

For the Spring Semester of 2001, the 47 students become the "Analysts" for a hypothetical, midsize, multinational agricultural firm headquartered in the United States. As analysts, they were assigned to 12 geographical "Desks." Each Desk was responsible for designing and evaluating an export and import program for their part of the world. They chose to focus on value added products to high income consumers that would not compete directly with larger and well-established United States firms.

Analysts depend on current information and data to be effective, and the class used the Internet as their primary source in writing their reports. Pictures and E-Mail addresses of the Analysts, some of the resources they used in their analysis and further data concerning the class are detailed in their web site http://www.ianr.unl.edu/kendrick/425-Spring-01.htm

Their reports include an overview by countries assigned to their Desks focusing on the geography; current economic and political situation, a description of the people and their diets, and ends with the products they chose to export and import.

Erin Fujan, Senior in Agribusiness and President of the Student Section of the American Agricultural Economic Association, served as my Administrative Assistant for this class. As such, Erin interacted with the Chairs of the Desks in maintaining a common format and assembled their reports into this document. Without her steady hand this final report of the Analysts would not have been possible.

It has been a pleasure to work with this exiting group of young Analysts. As it has been true over the many years I have taught this course, I learn more from them than they learn from me.

The reports from the 12 Desks follow.
