What is the effect of being "Served Off"?
When an e-mail address is "Served Off" (also referred sometimes as "Served Out"), that address is NOT permitted to send any e-mail to UNL listservs or Listserv itself. However, that e-mail address WILL CONTINUE TO RECEIVE all e-mail sent to listservs they are a member of. That e-mail address is effectively on a "black list" and not only are attempts to send messages not successful, no warning or error messages are sent to that e-mail address, since serving off an e-mail address is a way to deal with spammers and they don't need any assistance on knowing what is and is not working.

Why is an e-mail address "Served Off"?
There are several reasons as to why an e-mail address might be "Served Off". However, the most common reason is a user of Lotus Notes Full Client use of the "Out of Office" feature. This is a problem in the situation of when a listserv is set to reply to the entire listserv membership and there are two or more members simultaneously using the "Out of Office" feature. This would result in a flood of non-stop replies of "Out of Office" message responses to the other member(s) "Out of Office" message. To avoid this aggravation to other listserv members, such an e-mail address is "Served Off".
