Boyd County Fair

Entry Day - July 30, 2008
July 31-August 2, 2008
Boyd County Fairgrounds, Spencer, Nebraska

2008 Fair Theme:  "Cruising Thru the Fair"

County fairs have been a tradition in Nebraska for many years. There's a special excitement that goes along with the county fair. The county fair offers the 4-H'er the opportunity to exhibit the project(s) he or she has worked so hard on. 4-H'ers also will have their exhibits judged or evaluated at the fair. The fair judging helps the 4-H'er measure their progress against established criteria or standards of excellence. 4-H'ers have a chance to gain personal satisfaction, share ideas and learn to work cooperatively with others. The whole community celebrates the work of 4-H youth.

The Boyd County Fair is the premier showcase for 4-H'ers to share what they've learned and worked on throughout the year. At the fair, we celebrate the successes of those of 4-H members who have learned and grown through 4-H. The county fair is one of many experiences in the 4-H program.

Following are the 4-H objectives of the Boyd County Fair:
  1. to provide an opportunity for personal growth and development of the young person
  2. to promote character building of youth and adults including trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship
  3. to provide educational experiences for youth, families, and volunteer leaders
  4. to provide leadership opportunities for youth and adults
  5. to practice sportsmanship for youth and adults to be fair competitors, good losers, and graceful winners
  6. to provide recognition for achievement
  7. to add to the public understanding of the scope of 4-H
  8. to help build a more educational and exciting Boyd County Fair

Before your child can take the projects or exhibits to the fair, an official entry must be made. We would encourage you to get the details by reading the fair regulations book or consulting your Extension Staff. Find out more about 4-H by visiting with your 4-H leader, Extension staff and other 4-H families.

Projects exhibited at county fair can be selected to represent your county at the State Fair. In addition to exhibits, the State Fair offers several competitive events for 4-H members, aged 12 and up.
